Your Backyard.
All the Way Through

A pool is the centrepiece. Everything around it, including the shade structure, the kitchen, the fire feature, the lighting, and more, is what makes the space feel finished. Dream Acres designs and builds complete outdoor living environments, not just pools
Our Approach

The Pool Is the Start. Not the Finish.

Most pool companies stop at the water’s edge. Dream Acres doesn’t. We think about the whole backyard, because the experience of your outdoor space is determined by everything around the pool, not just the pool itself. The pergola that provides shade in the afternoon. The kitchen that means you never have to go inside to entertain. The fire feature that extends summer evenings well into autumn.

Designing and building these elements alongside your pool, rather than as a separate project with a separate contractor, means they’re planned together, built together, and finished as a single cohesive space. It also means one point of contact, one timeline, and one team accountable for the whole result.

If you already have a pool and want to invest in the space around it, we’re equally happy to come in as a standalone outdoor living contractor. The conversation is the same either way.

What We Build

Every Element of Your
Outdoor Space

Pergolas & Shade Structures

Shade makes a backyard usable. Without it, a Middle Tennessee summer afternoon can drive everyone inside. A well-positioned pergola or shade structure extends the hours you spend outdoors, protects guests from the sun, and adds an architectural element that gives the space a sense of definition and intention.
  • Custom timber, steel and aluminium pergola construction
  • Attached and freestanding configurations
  • Louvred roof and shade sail options
  • Integrated lighting and fan provisions

Outdoor Kitchens

An outdoor kitchen changes how you entertain. When the cooking, the eating, and the socialising all happen outside in the same space, close to the pool, the dynamic shifts. Guests aren’t waiting for food to appear from inside. Everything happens together, in the space you’ve actually designed for it.
  • Built-in grills, smokers, pizza ovens and side burners
  • Prep surfaces, sinks, refrigeration and storage
  • Bar tops and counter seating
  • Covered and open configurations to suit your layout

Fire Pits & Fire Features

Fire extends the season and anchors the space. A well-placed fire pit or fire feature becomes the natural gathering point when the sun goes down, keeping evenings going longer and making the outdoor space feel genuinely alive year-round rather than just in the peak of summer.
  • Custom built-in fire pits in stone, concrete and steel
  • Gas and wood-burning configurations
  • Fire bowls and linear fire features for contemporary designs
  • Integrated seating walls and surround design

Decking & Hardscaping

The surface surrounding your pool is the canvas everything else sits on. Material choice, layout, and transitions between zones determine how the space flows and how it feels underfoot. We design and install pool decking and hardscaping as part of the overall project, not as an afterthought.
  • Travertine, pavers, concrete and natural stone options
  • Pool coping design and installation
  • Pathways, retaining walls and level changes
  • Drainage planning integrated from the start

Outdoor Lighting

Lighting transforms the outdoor space after dark, and a well-lit backyard doesn’t just look beautiful, it’s safe and functional. Architectural lighting, path lighting, feature uplighting, and pool and pergola lighting all contribute to a space that’s as usable at 9pm as it is at 3pm. We design and install lighting as an integrated part of every outdoor living project.
  • LED pool and water feature lighting
  • Pergola and structure-mounted lighting
  • Path, step and safety lighting
  • Landscape uplighting and feature illumination
  • Smart automation and app control integration

Landscaping

Planting and landscaping is what separates a finished backyard from a construction site that’s been cleaned up. The right landscaping frames the pool, adds privacy, softens hard edges, and makes the whole space feel considered and cared for. We include landscaping as part of our outdoor living scope so the finished result looks genuinely complete.
  • Pool-friendly plant selection suited to Middle Tennessee climate
  • Privacy screening and border planting
  • Garden beds, edging and mulching
  • Lawn restoration after construction
Why Build With Dream Acres

One Team for the Whole Backyard

The outdoor living companies who do great work aren’t always pool builders. The pool builders who do great work aren’t always outdoor living specialists. Dream Acres does both, which means the two always talk to each other.

Z

Designed as One Space, Not Two Projects

When your pool and your outdoor living space are designed by the same team at the same time, the result is a backyard that feels intentional rather than assembled. Materials, proportions, sightlines, everything is considered together from the start.

Z

3D Design Before Anything Is Built

Every outdoor living project follows the same design process as our pool builds, full 3D rendering and a Value Engineering session before any work begins. You see the finished result first, adjust it until it’s right, then build with confidence.
Z

No Subcontractor Handoffs

We build in-house. The team that designs your outdoor space is the team that constructs it, which means consistent standards, clear accountability, and no gaps between what was agreed and what gets built.

Z

Can Be Added to an Existing Pool

You don’t need to be building a new pool to work with us on your outdoor living space. If you have an existing pool and you’re ready to invest in the space around it, we’re happy to come in as a standalone outdoor living contractor.
Z

One Timeline, One Point of Contact

Managing multiple contractors on a backyard project is one of the most common sources of delays and frustration homeowners report. One team means one schedule, one set of updates, and one person accountable for the whole result.
Z

Built to Last and Backed Up

Our 1-year workmanship warranty covers everything we build, pool or outdoor living. And our team remains available after the project closes, because we’re the ones who built it and we’re the right people to call if anything ever needs attention.

Frequently Asked Questions

Explore the most commonly asked questions about building a pool in Central Tennessee.

Do we have to build the outdoor living space at the same time as the pool?

No, while building everything together is more efficient and allows for a more cohesive design, outdoor living elements can absolutely be added later. Many clients phase their project over time, building the pool first and adding a pergola, kitchen, or fire feature in a subsequent phase. The conversation and design process is the same either way.

Can you work on an outdoor space where you didn't build the pool?

Yes, we work on outdoor living projects alongside existing pools regardless of who built them. If you have a pool already and want to invest in the surrounding space, we’re happy to come out, assess the site, and design an outdoor living environment that works with what’s already there.

What is the process for an outdoor living project?

It follows the same six-step process as our pool builds — consultation, 3D design, Value Engineering meeting, permitting where required, construction, and handoff with warranty. Outdoor living elements that don’t require permits (like many pergolas and landscaping projects) move more quickly through the process, but the same design rigour and construction standards apply regardless of scope.

Do outdoor living projects require permits?

It depends on the scope. Structural elements like pergolas, outdoor kitchens with gas connections, and electrical installations typically require permits. Landscaping, decking, and some smaller features may not. Requirements vary by county and municipality across Middle Tennessee, we navigate all of this on your behalf as part of the project.

Is financing available for outdoor living projects?

Yes, we work with Lyon Financial for outdoor living projects, the same lender we use for pool builds. Their financing is specifically designed for this type of home improvement project and typically offers better terms than a personal loan or home equity line. Ask our team for details during your consultation.

What decking and surface materials do you work with?

We work with a wide range of materials, travertine, natural stone, concrete pavers, stamped concrete, and porcelain tile are among the most common for pool surrounds in Middle Tennessee. Material choice depends on your design direction, budget, and the way the space will be used. We’ll walk through the options and what each means for aesthetics, maintenance, and longevity during your consultation.
